What Pockets said, with stilts on.

I have to disagree on one point, though: were Alan Clark still around, I'm sure 220,000 new pupils would be almost a manifesto commitment. Ahem.

Interesting story, but a lot of the evidence you sight in pre-2007 stuff, i.e. before the economic downturn. Surely the Tories have (as Labour will) already indicated that these polices will be redrawn in coming months to cope with the state of public finances?

Welcome to the blogosphere, LeftFootForward. Nice website, good to see bloggers invoking actual evidence ;-)
That said, I thought the best way to welcome you would be to disagree (respectfully) with this post, which I think makes a fairly basic mistake - confusing school places with pupils. The UK school system ensures funds follow pupils, not places. And the Tories have proposed 220,000 new school places - not 220,000 new pupils. More here: www.hundredpockets.com/2009/08/welcome-to-the-blogosphere/
Still, LeftFootForward is going on the blogroll, and I'll keep checking back. Best of luck to you...
