OECD education report encouraging for Britain
The OECD's annual Education at a Glance report showed encouraging signs for the British education system, though it also revealed there was still work to do.
Manufacturing decline ended in January
While the OECD and other forecasters continue to pump out gloomy assessments of the outlook for the UK economy, most commentators appear not to have noticed that the decline in manufacturing activity ended as long ago as January.

MigrationWatch: new focus on population growth
MigrationWatch today continued their attempt to shift the focus of debate on migration away from people movement and towards population. The press release for a new report suggested that rising numbers of births to immigrant parents will contribute to increased demand for primary school places, costing the British taxpayer £1 billion in building costs for new schools.
Spectator’s spectacular U-turn on climate change
One of Ian Plimer’s central claims – reported by Melanie Phillips for The Spectator - is that Arctic sea ice is in fact growing. This assertion is, of course, simply wrong. But this week’s magazine, in arguing for new fossil fuel extraction in Arctic wilderness areas, carries the reverse claim. Are we witnessing a new editorial line on climate change – or is the magazine simply unconcerned about contradicting itself in the starkest terms on the biggest issue of our time?
