Would that be like the Manifesto madness of Blair lying to us about holding a Referendum on the EU Constitution and Brown reneging on it because the title was changed to Treaty. At the last election, Labour polled considerably fewer votes in England than the Tories, but because of the gerry-mandered constituency boundaries, won more seats. On the basis of that they reneged on a Manifesto Commitment to ram through a Treaty they knew the British people didn't want.

I don't think Labour has any right to complain about a Manifesto Mandate. If the Tories are elected, and Cameron has promised repatriation of powers from the EU Politburo, that is exactly what he should deliver.

Can British politics survive the Lisbon treaty? Is Europe ready for the British press?

Cast your mind forward:

It is 2011 and we have an unhappy Prime Minister Cameron and an EU President Blair. The UK looks to be on the brink of recovery, but can't quite climb out of economic recession due to its ongoing support in Afghanistan and the bungled sale of Northern Rock, Lloyds and RBS toxic debt.

In between the headlines of troop death figures hitting a milestone 2000, the Telegraph turns it's eye towards European MP expenses. A leaked report shows how the European Vice President Peter Mandleson has claimed interest relief on his Brussels residence and that the UK tax payer has been funding his easyjet fights to Europe...

Oh dear he we go again...

When we flap on and on about Europe, we should remember that the Accounts for Europe are a nightmare...Let alone the expenses system, upon which the whole of Europe revolves.

For those of us who believe is electoral reform, a 'manifesto mandate' is a sick joke. You have no mandate for anything if you've won 37 or 38% of the vote.
