I can’t imagine what a federal EU superstate would look like; it’s too far into the realms of rightwing loony fiction for any of us to speculate.

I’m also not sure the gang of four are ‘heroes’ for progressives, more like a historical cautionary tale. I think David Cameron is instinctively eurosceptic, smart enough to know withdrawal is nonsensical, but using the issue of Europe as red meat to his UKIP leaning supporters when he veers towards his compassionate rebranding which would otherwise put them off.

The Conservative Party wants to be part of the EU. Personally I think we should leave. You think David Cameron wants to leave? Haha, you have no idea how much he is on your side Four of his shadow cabinet are ex SDP for example. And a few of his biggest fans in the media are ex-SDP too. Aren’t the gang of four heroes for progressives?

The EU can only enhance our otherwise limited sovereignty in the face of US and Asian competition; it has acted as an engine of prosperity and common understanding. The common market is the lynchpin of our economy, the cost of being in the Union is low, and the importance of the decisions it makes to our economy (whether we’re in or out) demand that we have a say in shaping it. Anybody who really sees a threat is suffering for a bizarre persecution complex.

Why abandon it to a pathetic little-englander fantasy?

As for some of David Cameron’s Eurosceptic allies, it’s quite obvious what kind of people they are, and that such people share the Conservatives European instincts is both worrying and quite telling.

Mr. Pieta (MP for Polish Law and Justice Party in Poland)bandied around some dubious statistics from Britain.

“I am not saying that every gay is a paedophile, but let us consider the example of Great Britain where from 20 to 43 percent of uncovered cases of paedophilia are homosexual instances, while gays make only 1% of society,” he said.

He sounds pretty homophobic to me.

Any actual verifiable statistics to refute his assertion anyone?
