In 29 states there are no anti-discrimination laws regarding sexual orientation and in 34 states it is legal to discriminate against transgender people.
On Monday President Obama tweeted his desire to introduce an Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would make it illegal for employers to fire employees for being LGBT.
Currently there are 29 states in which there are no anti-discrimination laws regarding sexual orientation and in 34 states it is legal to discriminate against transgender people.
ENDA would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of traits which cannot be discriminated against – including race, religion, gender and disability.
(No laws preventing discrimination on grounds of sexual identity and gender identity. No laws preventing discrimination on grounds of gender identity.)
Polling shows that 73% of people support protecting gay and transgender people from workplace discrimination.
In 29 states, no state law protects you from being fired for being gay. Let’s fix that: http://t.co/gK0BOaCW7i #ENDA pic.twitter.com/N5GWq2d0co

To reach hundreds of thousands of new readers and to make the biggest impact we can in the next general election, we need to grow our donor base substantially.
That's why in 2024, we are seeking to generate 150 additional regular donors to support Left Foot Forward's work.
We still need another 124 people to donate to hit the target. You can help. Donate today.
